Rhododendron

Some of the flowering shrubs and trees in the park include the Catawba rhododendron, whose lavender flower blooms about the first week of May; the Rosebay rhododendron, whose whitish pink flower
begins to bloom the first week of June; the mountain laurel (often called ivy), whose white flower
blooms June 1 and later; the white blossomed dogwood; the redbud, which produces a pinkish bloom;
and two species of magnolia tree, which has a showy white flower appearing in the spring.
