The Clintwood United Methodist Church
Is Famous For Its Unique Stained Glass Windows

When organized in 1855 by circuit rider Alexander Maness at the home of Dow Dunber, near what is now Dwale, the Clintwood United Methodist Church membership roll comprised only ten names. The first building was constructed of logs at Holly Creek, now Clintwood, in 1883.

The priceless and irreplaceable sanctuary windows now gracing the present structure of native sandstone were the outstanding feature of the building on which construction began in 1911. The windows miraculously came through the disastrous fire of 1958. Grimed and standing sentinel above the ruins, but still beautiful and inspiring, the windows radiated an undeniable challenge to build yet another church worthy of the worship of God.

A visit to Dickenson County would not be complete without gazing upon the famous stained glass windows of the Clintwood United Methodist Church. And if you are by there on Sunday, stop in for morning services.
